Living in a multicultural country asks for integration. Integration stands for different cultures coming together in a way that every individual adjusts to the dominant culture without losing their own culture. Everyone has the right to live according to their own values and beliefs. Religion, tradition, personal principles, habits etc. are all important aspects of every individual.
For all these individuals to live in harmony together, there is a need for a common ground. The integration exams are based on these common grounds. What knowlegde of the Dutch culture and society is useful to know for making the process of integration a succes. So we can all live in mutual understanding and respect together. This is the main goal of the civic integration course. Learning Dutch is also an important aspect of integration.
Just as all other courses at ‘Nederlands de baas’, you do the exam when you are ready for it. The average length of integration is 1,5 – 2 years, depending on various factors as age, former level of education, time to homestudy, ability/motivation to learn etc.
